Created through one of our Hack Day initiatives, By Indigenous provides a platform for Indigenous inmates in New South Wales to share their work for the benefit of the wider Indigenous community. All art pieces are handcrafted and hand painted by Indigenous inmates at Bathurst Correctional Centre. From the carving of the pieces to their intricate dot painting decoration, their works tell the stories of the Dreamtime.
To begin the Hack Day we asked:, “how can we create a functioning ecommerce site in a day?”
We then split into six teams; Branding, Customer Service, Devs, Content, Marketing and Logistics. Branding informed the content, and the devs and the content team worked closely together to set up the website. Branding and content then worked on creative with the marketing team which they then pushed out through social and shopping channels, all while logistics teamed up with Sendle to organise deliveries.
It was an incredible exercise in understanding the full ecommerce realm – giving the team greater insight into a day in the life of our retail clients and their pressures.
The result was a fully-functioning ecommerce site and charity brand, created by 4pm that day. By Indigenous has since made thousands of dollars to fund the purchase of material and equipment for released inmates, giving back to the Indigenous community through the Bathurst Land Council.
Set up a charity to empower the Indigenous community through artistic creativity, raising awareness of their culture, and aiding the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates.
Divide and conquer before waterfalling our ideas; letting the branding inform content and the content inform marketing
Creation of a fully-functioning e-commerce site with social and paid media channels, created by the team in a day.
